Nobat's Equipments

 

The Nobat musical instruments of Nagara and Nepiri were introduced by Maharaja Derbar Raja. Kedah's Nobat used equipments such as 1 "Mahara", 2 " Gendang Besar", 1 "Gong", 1 "Nafiri", 2 "serunai" and 2 "Ceng - ceng". This instruments were known as "Semambu" and it was known as the guidance and not as instruments.

 

 

Serunai Kedah

It is also known as the "flute". The flute's stem is made from chilli rice tree's stem. It was made by using the chilli rice because the stem is able to make the melody sound sweeter. The flue flute is made from silver whereas the simpal flute is made from "suasa".The place for blowing is made from Thai leaves. It is normally about 17 inches long. There are 7 holes made on the top part and 1 hole on the lower part of the stem. 

Gong Kedah

This tool is made of copper, came from Java. The bat for the gong is made of special wood and coated with a strong yellow cloth. It is hanged in a special place called "poles". The gong surface area is about 18 inches. It is used to beat on the vertex part that is sticking out. 

Nahara

Mahara is about 11 inches high and 5 1/2 inches radius.
